The Essence of Competitive Strategies

It might be surprising to know that most companies do not have a competitive

advantage. Does this mean that they are not doing things well? Not necessarily. They

may have good products and good relations with their customers. In fact, they may

have some excellent capabilities, or they may have features on their products that no

one else has, but these alone do not add up to a competitive advantage. Realistically,

how many companies can truly dominate a market or a marketplace? Not many.
