Discourses of Diversity

If we want to explore the nature of everyday discourses on religious diversity within the city we are immediately struck by all kinds of methodological questions. Not only do we have to define what is meant by ‘everyday discourses’, we then have to identify where we might find these discourses and how we might record them in order to undertake the kind of analysis assumed by this book. This chapter, therefore, sets out to explore some of these methodological questions and begins to set out a basic classification of such discourses that forms the basis for the analysis in the subsequent chapters.
