ABSTRACT

There is a lot of corporate bravado about valuing diversity. One such structure is managerialism, or what can be referred to as managerial conformity. It is associated with hierarchy, accountability, measurement, and tight control of an organization by those with positional power. Generally speaking, and beyond the further education framework alone, the managerial approach is based on a hierarchical, top-down approach that is based upon command and control. Such an approach is a central feature of the new public management framework in operation within further education. Their research demonstrates that a school environment for effective management of cultural diversity can be achieved through creative approaches to professional management and school governance, characterized by a collaborative management style. Morrison also states that complexity theory offers much to leadership and management, and advocates for the application of complexity theory to educational environments. Morrison holds there is evidence of its value in informing and supporting effective change management.
