ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the fundamentals of action research and the design of School track. It addresses the application of electronic performance support in mainstream education to enable teachers to conduct research as part of their job. The School track community is the platform for continuing professional development of teachers through action research. Schooltrack's functionality and Database allow developers of School track, as academic researchers, to re-analyse data across projects and produce new findings. The Electronic Performance Support System (EPSS) assists teachers in research, publishing and sharing knowledge, and collaboration - three types of EPSS assistance introduced by Barker as educational settings. One of the information and communication technology (ICT) innovation strategies in Dutch education is the stimulation of action research into design and effects of ICT carried out by teachers in their own professional context. The goal of Knowledge Round about programme was to promote action research and to develop and use educational innovations in Dutch primary and secondary education.
