ABSTRACT
The aim of this chapter is to examine the increasing permeance of Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS) from previously standalone entities into new and exciting applications in the world of business and commerce. The first section provides a brief overview of EPSS and related tools, including, where available, specific examples within business and commerce. This is followed by a discussion of the impact of EPSS systems on those who employ their use in terms of planning, management and evaluation. The last section explores emerging avenues of development, with particular emphasis on the growth of new technology and ubiquitous computing, and their contribution towards expanding the provision of computer-based systems for performance improvement.
