‘A fine moral machinery’: Infant Schools in British India

We understand that the Bishop of Calcutta is making arrangements for the establishment of an Infant School in the Bow Bazar. Experience elsewhere has shown that such institutions may be made instruments of incalculable benefits to the rising generation, by laying the foundation at an early age of moral and religious character; and it is therefore to be hoped that the one now in contemplation will be the model for many others. ¹
