ABSTRACT

Between 1 January 1958 and 31 December 2012 220,000 people were killed in Colombia as a result of internal armed conflict. Of these victims, 81.5 per cent have been civilians; the rest have been combatants. Since then, one out of every three violent deaths in the country has been related to continuing internal armed conflict. During this time, 5,700,000 people have been displaced by force (GMH 2013). The main actors involved are guerrilla groups (with its different branches), paramilitary groups, and the Colombian Army.
