What I Learnt in the House of God
Liturgy and Society contains a distinctive and highly personal section which gives an insight into Gabriel Hebert the man. It gives a way in to beginning to understand Liturgy and Society and its implications. Such a personal disclosure is rare in a work of theology. The threads of key themes are woven together and can be clearly identified. Biographical details and theological influences, such as that of Frederick Denison Maurice, set Hebert in context. This chapter will set what formed Hebert alongside Liturgy and Society to give a wider historical-theological context. A detailed contextual analysis of the personal, confessional, section of Liturgy and Society will be given and which will define the capacity that the liturgical experience has in shaping lives in general and how it shaped Hebert’s in particular.
