ABSTRACT

A clinical trial has been defined as: any investigation in human subjects intended to discover or verify the clinical, pharmacological or other pharmacodynamic effects of medicinal products, to identify any adverse reactions, to study absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of such products, with the object of ascertaining the safety or efficacy of those products. Data from the UK study were entered on to SPSS and statistical methods used to explore the relationships between the variables. According to the Royal College of Physicians: Undoubtedly, patients who like their doctors and have confidence in them are inclined to agree to proposals to take part in research. Researchers' views Patients' desire to help their doctors was considered to be a 'relevant' or 'highly relevant' motivation by 75 per cent of researchers. One reason for agreeing to participate in a clinical trial may be dissatisfaction with the level of pain relief or symptom control offered by current therapy.
