ABSTRACT

This chapter compares mothering through food practicing among two different groups of Danish women where their food practices are related to two different media food genres. First, the theoretical perspective on food and media food is presented, being a practice theoretical approach, where media discourses are seen as resources that are being domesticated. Second, the methodological design of the two empirical studies of food practicing in mediates everyday contexts is shortly presented and an argumentation for the validity of comparing the empirical patterns across the two different social contexts as well as media food genres is given. Third, a number of examples on empirical patterns in using media food framings for mothering through food are presented. The chapter focuses on differences in cultural hybridisation in food practicing related to the media food genre, and on similarities in mothering through food across connections with different media food genres. Fourth, the conclusion ties back to the current media development.
