ABSTRACT
Energy in a broader sense is an issue endowed with all the ingredients that call for, even necessitate, some form of multilateral governance. To date, however, there is no single venue for international discussion on energy issues. There is no World Energy Organization. Instead, global energy governance is fragmented and dispersed into a patchwork of various overlapping and sometimes overtly competing organizations. The present chapter aims to map this complex institutional architecture of global energy governance by giving an overview of the most important international organizations active in the energy sector. Of course, a single chapter can only provide a broad and selective account of the myriad of energy-related activities undertaken by international organizations. What follows should thus not be considered as a systematic survey. 1
