ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses matrix which can exist in various forms and also describes about task force organisation arrangement that can be effective in management change project. A coordinated matrix is recognised as a weak matrix, because the power of the project coordinator or manager is weak when compared with that of functional managers. A project support office (PSO), although placing yet another manager within the span of control, will usually provide that support and relieve project coordinator or manager of routine tasks that would otherwise dilute his or her ability to manage across wide span. Where commands to a subordinate originate from two different managers, and the principle of unity of command is violated, risk of conflict can be averted if both managers always issue identical commands. Sometimes companies adopt the solution of a hybrid organisation, in which most projects are managed across common matrix organisation, but with self-contained teams set up for certain projects when the need arises.
