ABSTRACT

This chapter defines the fundamental process analysis skills that each Grass Roots worker should master. Through effective process analysis, the voice of the Grass Roots employee is heard, and they become change leaders. When Anne Kelly was first introduced to Grass Roots Innovation, she believed that no process analysis methodology worked perfectly. In a reactive management system, process analysis work is taken only to the activity level by the management team. Team members should be taught how to define the output requirements of their activities, and how they relate to the process as a whole. Organizational measurements show what the problems are, but they provide no insight into how they got that way. At the top level of the company, executives have a responsibility to set goals, direction and strategies. Paul Casey, a senior manager whose Grass Roots teams attended a Grass Roots workshop, understands the value of process innovation, teams and Mind Maps.
