ABSTRACT

Indian traditional systems of medicine are of immense significance to the health care of the citizens. Health care policy could be a major indicator for assessing the welfare mechanism of a nation. The planning ensures resources for addressing the need-based health problems of urban poor and other vulnerable sections, including a health insurance scheme that may enable the urban poor to meet health care needs. The nation is grappling with issues such as access, cost and quality in long-term care services. The public health sector in India has not been able to provide good-quality health care services to large sections of the population. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have been celebrated as one of the most successful UN agreements, generating an unprecedented level of support and enthusiasm across governments, citizens and the private sector. The provision for M-visas, or medical visas, started by the government as a boon to medical tourism industries.
