ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides people with the information required to set up and manage their own corporate learning centre. Corporate learning centres are open because any employee may make use of their services without regard to grade, gender, age, disability, qualifications and so on. In fact, complete subject areas are now available via Internet-based e-learning programmes or on Compact Disc - Read Only Memory/Digital Versatile Disk (CD-ROM/DVD), and there are a vast number of topical academic areas on audio and video. The advent of new technology such as Computer-Based Training (CBT), e-learning, video and audio, electronic mail (e-mail) and audio and video conferencing means that it has now become feasible for many organizations to bring open learning into the workplace. It is possible to provide training economically on most topics to small groups of employees.
