ABSTRACT

The prediction of human error is used within complex, dynamic systems to identify the nature of potential human or user errors and the causal factors, recovery strategies, and consequences associated with them. Information derived from human-error identification (HEI) analyses is then typically used to propose remedial measures designed to eradicate the potential errors identified. HEI works on the premise that an understanding of an individual’s intended (work) task and the characteristics of the technology and environment being used allows us to indicate potential errors that may arise from the resulting interaction (Stanton and Baber, 1996a).
