ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests the ways in which team members should receive recognition for their work and results, bearing in mind that they are not located in the same office, come from different departments with different bosses and work outside the normal hierarchical levels within the organization. A manager's success in keeping up to date with the team's activities and in being able to reward them accordingly will depend strongly on their ability to remotely manage the team. Failure to give adequate and timely recognition for a job well done will impact negatively on the team's performance and motivation over time, leading to less ambition to succeed as a team in the future. The reward scheme should be linked to the method of monitoring team performance. The team leader should take time to understand what motivates their team and, from this, how they should be rewarded when they achieve their goals.
