ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the generic Integral Worlds approach, as the author's then illustrated, is also the foundation of the specific approach to Integral Development. It demonstrates its ability to address major shortcomings of past and current development work. The Integral Development model introduces the full terrain of Integral Development, including compass and travel maps. Integral Development orientations provide a useful structure for consciously engaging with development, at least initially. It is here where Integral Development takes their journey on, in articulating four new types of universities that are able to institutionalise such new development theory and practice more purposefully. A University designs to institutionalise diverse self-organisational-societal developmental impulses through an educational institution that can then serve to make the newly derived development theory and practice universally accessible. A Developmental University transcends the level of an individual, organisation and community and has its main focus on societal learning and consciousness-raising.
