ABSTRACT

This chapter clarifies the mechanisms involved in bringing about the product and service innovation processes that lie at the heart of the information revolution in the ICT industry. There are three main types of knowledge innovators involved in the growth of ICT and digital businesses platform innovators, application innovators and content innovators. Collaborative strategies across a companys dynamically structured internal and external knowledge integration IBC's and boundary networks serve to integrate the knowledge needed to bring about hybrid innovation for target new products, services and business models. Even at the level of services and products, Microsoft's shift into development and sales of its Windows Media Player media distribution product from its operating system and office software, or CATV operator's development of triple play services. To develop co-creation and co-evolution, the critical elements here are the leadership integrative capability held by practitioners, commitment through sustained deep involvement, high embeddedness, and resonance of values and trust building.
