ABSTRACT

Throughout this book, reference has been made to the principle of risk management, the aviation safety regulator’s primary tool for controlling the risk of aviation activities. While there are formal methods available for the quantification of risk, these are highly specialized techniques that are beyond the scope and requirements of this publication. However, the reader should develop the mindset that the management of risk is the foundation of the aviation safety regulation system and regulators will expect airline executives, operational managers and indeed any aviation professional to approach their duties with the idea of minimizing risk foremost in their minds.
