ABSTRACT

The day will come when the investigator, managers or lawyers are called to give evidence in court, and this can be a daunting prospect. However, the ordeal can be made easier if the potential witness heeds the following warnings and rules. They are deliberately written in a very personal way, because at the time people may need to refer to them, the issues will indeed be very personal. Double-check all schedules, calculations people have made in people statement or on which people might be required to comment during people evidence. Familiarize them with the court, how to get there, and how long the journey takes. The big problem comes with cross-examination by counsel for the other side. Witnesses and others involved in investigations might wonder whether the whole episode and the torture in court were worthwhile. The answer is overwhelmingly in the positive, because someone has to take a stand against fraud.
