ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book attempts to draw together and synthesise a number of themes that inform a critical perspective of lifelong learning as its impacts on older people using social care. It provides a review of some of the key legislation, policy and guidance across the diverse areas of education, learning, wellbeing, social work and social care, many of which continue to evolve alongside a major strategic drive to place greater responsibility for identifying and organising services in the hands of older people. The book highlights and draws out key areas where the cross-over between the disciplines with social work and social care may enrich older people's experiences of care and personalisation as one way of contributing to the transformation of public services. It introduces some of the major theorists in the area of lifelong learning and educational gerontology.
