A new era The introduction of Apple’s iPod in 2001 ushered in a new era for the way in which we listen to music. This new era is characterized by a substantial increase in music’s portability and accessibility,1 which has resulted in the near-seamless integration of music into a variety of everyday life activities.2 These claims are not difficult to substantiate. On a daily basis, we encounter people commuting and listening to music, exercising and listening to music, cleaning and listening to music, shopping and listening to music – the list goes on and on.
