ABSTRACT

This chapter examines various ways in which these farmers might set about planning their small project. The case example which we now introduce has been invented for its simplicity and suitability. It is sufficiently simple to allow the plans and other reports to be shown clearly in these small pages, yet substantially enough to demonstrate the possible planning methods. Businesspeople with no previous project management experience often set about planning work in their companies by what we might call the diary method of planning. Managers, know of course that they had created a WBS, but to those farmers it was just a task list showing how the work might be shared. Resource scheduling will be described in much greater detail in and, but this simple chart was adequate for the small 4J airstrip project and at one time Gantt charts on adjustable boards were the only tool available to project managers for matching tasks to the resources available.
