ABSTRACT

The central theme of Weber's sociology is to clarify the historical place of modern Western society and to show its unique nature. According to Weber, the West is unique because it gave birth to capitalism. His most significant work, in which, is Protestant Ethic. However, it is surprising that such wide and ambitious analyses are based on one dimensional research. For instance, huge gaps in time exist when presenting proof and this is the most criticized part of Protestant Ethic. However, such problems are an almost natural part of his analyses on Oriental societies. Even though he compares Oriental societies with one another and mentions many differences, in the end, he designates similarities that reconcile these differences in the Orient, presenting it as the West's negative other. In this context, to demonstrate the uniqueness of the West, Weber designs a counter-Oriental model.
