ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. House of Lies is one of the few Quality television shows featuring an African American protagonist. In "Representing the Mad Margins of the early 1960s", American Studies scholar Clarence Lang examines the problematic ways in which Mad Men addresses the issues of race. HBO's vampire drama True Blood presents an allegorical exploration of the liberal strategy to contain sexuality within existing political and familial structures and the queer desire to disrupt those very structures. True Blood offers a location in which those issues that dominate discussions of queer politics might circulate in the more mainstream location of pay cable, albeit through an allegory of vampire politics. A science fiction show about vampires, True Blood takes place at a time when vampires have "come out" from hiding and many are living with and among humans.
