ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an edited version of the interview conducted with Louisa Smith, Leanne Dowse and Karen Soldatic and provides an overview of the process of developing contemporary massive open online courses (MOOC) from the experiences of those involved. It also reflects on issues around disability studies as a discipline and its relationship to MOOCs as well as providing a context to talk about accessibility and MOOC development and the approach to disability in an e-learning space taken by these scholars. The interview shows, much of the work on MOOC development is still very ad hoc, presenting challenges in a number of areas from getting the development teams together and working smoothly, to the mismatched view of what is required in terms of funding and resources from the university to develop the MOOC and the alternate funding found to help support the project.
