ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some important areas of statistical analysis and focus on common misunderstandings that result time and again in an inappropriate interpretation of statistical results. It was the idea of political arithmetic to derive inherent laws from the social and economical data that they collected. In social sciences, statistics is just a system of models and related mathematical procedures that allow a systematic reduction of complex data with regard to a specific research question. International organizations like the EU or the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and others cover several service sectors and provide comprehensive data that can be a great source of background information. Multivariate statistical models are an attempt to reduce the number of variables and observations in a complex empirical structure without reducing the essential information of the data set. The multivariate analysis of variance is an approach for several topological independent variables and one or more metric dependent variables.
