ABSTRACT

This chapter provides two central interests that are pursued. First, the text provides a concise insight into recent public media discourses about tourism, and secondly, it develops recent theories in media research to further the existing understanding of tourism. And some critical reflections will be presented, providing an overview of the current situation. In the context of recent Internet cultures, especially in the case of Web 2.0, it becomes apparent that technological development often generates repetitive rituals in the public discourse about the media sector. The chapter examines, the rapid evolution that has occurred in the field of digital media will be reflected upon as it has, without any doubt, revolutionized tourism, at least with regard to its communication structures. The dynamics of this process have increased dramatically, with no end in sight. The global diffusion of the Internet and its evolution to Web 2.0 in particular, has changed the tourist world profoundly.
