A question of general interest is the extent to which new information and communication technologies (ICTs) modify, or are modifying, human mobility. Does adoption of the internet, mobile phones, social networking sites and other virtual communications media reduce the need to travel? All these technologies have enjoyed considerable market penetration in recent years.
