ABSTRACT

This research began with the observation that art is showing a growing interest in participating and intervening in daily life, in a close relationship with the social realm. On the one hand, a structure with specific aims and goals and, on the other hand, an understanding of what multidisciplinarity entails outside of the artistic realm. Art was first assumed as the discipline to be the engine for social change and, even though art alone cannot do much, it shows very important characteristics that can boost the success of a project for social change including creativity, participation, empowerment, and the capacity to perceive the world and show it in various ways. Participation is important for art but also for cultural studies and project management as was seen in the theoretical framework. Art and science appear as opposites as science is usually connected with rationality and methodology whereas art is usually associated with subjectivity and chaos.
