ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book outlines a series of opportunities that the contemporary moment offers for museums and higher education (HE) to work together realizing the possibilities for new hybrid models and practices, new kinds of dialogue, and harnessing the potential of new digital opportunities. It examines the specific characteristics of learning within the museum. The book explores the gap between the internalized and more rarefied dialogues between museum and university experts, and the more popular expectations as to what museums and universities might offer to HE. It focuses on the values and relevance of object and collections-based learning as a public good how museums and universities can better understand and promote collaborative activities as a vitally important form of learning. Each artefact in a museum provides a potential learning portal' and embodies multiple, and often, contradictory ideas and narratives.
