ABSTRACT

The author arrive at Chiswick College feeling notably more confident than in her previous research site mainly because she know where she going, having visited the junior school several times in the previous year to teach an enrichment programme. Sam Hall is 25 years old and is in his third year of teaching at Chiswick College. The way Sam teaches music now is vastly different from the way he was taught, a phenomenon that some suggest is unusual for teachers. The author asks him what he believes is the most important aspect of his classroom teaching. Isabel Kang is a student in Sam's Year 12 class. The author has observed Isabel in Sam's class and she immediately stands out as one of the strongest students. Again, as the author leave this case behind, she try to make sense of what she have seen and heard here. Sam was essentially hired by Chiswick College because of his training in Kodaly methodology.
