ABSTRACT

The Venetian government received a letter in the name of Sultan Mustafa. Sultan Mustafa notes that the port of Split had been constructed to guarantee the safety of Ottoman merchants. The letter notes that a group of Muslim merchants from Bosnia, Herzegovina, Klis and other Ottoman districts had wanted to travel from Split to Venice in order to trade. Christian ships attacked Ottoman convoys in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Venetians struggles with the Habsburgs in Austria and in Spain. The Ottomans were engaged in a twelve-year war with the Safavids between 1578 and 1590 and were involved in a long-term battle with the Habsburgs involves constant territorial gains and losses. Pedro Tllez-Girn accomplishes the task by building alliances with other naval squadrons such as Genoa and Malta. Gen Liang argues that the Spanish government was made up of many personal networks, some of which were familial and maintained generational control over different areas.
