The International Human Rights Movement: Not Perfect, but a Lot Better than Many Governments Think

This chapter emanates from a presentation given in Beijing in the context of a conference on the development of ‘social organizations’ in China since 1978, when it started its transition. ¹ As countries develop economically and socially, the number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) tends to increase and they demand a greater role in decision-making, including but not exclusively, in the area of human rights.
