ABSTRACT

‘A mode of health transmission: affective health geographies’ builds on the previous chapter (affect being the main working concept of NRT, and thus deserving of dedicated attention in its own right). The chapter begins by explaining the philosophical origins of affect, particularly in Deleuzian thinking, and the ways in which it, as a producer of collective energy and atmosphere, works for and against health. Following this, attention is paid to the various engagements with affect in more-than-representational health geographies particularly within the empirical fields of health care, chronic disease, health-harming behaviours, and the politics and wellness in movement activities.
