ABSTRACT

This chapter traces future work landscapes, the role of older workers in this landscape and the forms of learning and skills which they will potentially require. It also explores holistic notions of well-being in the workplace necessary to support older workers, whom, as has been presented in this book will increasingly play a significant part in workforces, due to demographic changes.

Skills development is among the greatest global challenges facing countries, enterprises and people (Deloitte 2017). Crucially, it plays a vital role in promoting employment, economic growth and inclusive societies. This necessitates the combining of the resources of the workplace and education to realise and partner suitable training and development opportunities for all throughout their careers, to realise sustained growth and innovation through an improved labour market (Skills for Employment n.d.). Continuous lifelong learning for all will be needed. This raises a serious question and a challenge to organisations to wholly accept and adopt policies and practices of anti-discrimination law, equity and diversity in development and manage human capital for workplace diversity and inclusive learning.
