ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the situation of licit and illicit drugs in Cameroon, including the pattern of drug use/abuse, drug user profile, drug trafficking, and drug control policy and practice measures. Section 90 of the 1997 Cameroonian Law on Narcotics states that 'the expressions 'drug abuse' and 'illicit use' shall mean the use of forbidden drugs and the use without medical prescription of other drugs subjected to control'. It states that the term 'drug addict' refers to a person who is physically and/or psychologically dependent on drugs that are subject to control. Wansi's study captures useful details on the pattern and nature of drug use across a range of sociodemographics. Cameroon and Central Africa are fast becoming a transit zone and marketplace for international drug traffickers. Cameroonian laws on drugs include the Cameroonian Penal Code, and the Criminal Procedure Code and texts in application of international conventions on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
