ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the use of participatory research methods in the three distinctively different contextual environments of development post-disaster and post-conflict. It provides case studies which indicated that each use certainly has its time and place, and the researchers used them extensively with certain target groups such as the use of semi-structured interviews with the representatives of national authorities, international organizations or other elite groups. The book highlights the importance of trust building with communities in order to undertake participatory research methods. It deals with the issue of participation for such question as how a participatory approach can be used to measure the real impact of a project using indicators of impact denned by project participants. For a greater level of flexibility one of the main tools that can be used should be the multi-disciplinary approach to the research task in hand.
