ABSTRACT

The Living Archive is itself conceived as an evolving prototype, or series of prototypes. The video flow diagram explains the meta-level process for adding videos to the Living Archive and storing them. Each stage within the video flow has its own sub-processes, including a collections policy, camera and filming guide, compression guide and storage procedures. The clips structure works with time codes across a whole video and allows data to be carried across all views within the video. The primary means of engaging past and present Circus Oz company members with the Living Archive was through a range of live events. While Circus Oz holds the copyright for some elements of their performances, the standard employment contract with a Circus Oz performer does not provide for performances to be broadcast to the public. Copyright may also not be held for music played either as part of the show or during intermissions, appearances by under 18-year-olds or by Aboriginal Australians.
