ABSTRACT

This chapter contains a description of the definition of Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) and the PKM framework by Frand and Hixon and Avery et al, and the roles of PKM in the Knowledge Management (KM) life cycle. The competency and proficiency of Individual Knowledge Workers (IKW), among other factors, underpin the success of an organization's KM journey. Individual learning is closely linked with organizational learning in knowledge management. Collaboration and presentation skills enable IKWs to express their ideas and information effectively while securing skills are important to protect innovative plans and ideas. To better understand the gaps between individual and organizational learning, it is important to know the effect of the three aspects of learning objectives, learning factors and the learning process, on individual learning and on organizational learning. Employees, being adult learners, are assumed to be capable of framing their own choices, reflecting on their options, and making responsible, informed decisions that serve their interest.
