ABSTRACT

Catechetics holds a central place in Lig's theology. It is, to say the least, marginal in Protestant and anglophone theology. The first half of the twentieth century in France saw a major catechetic revival. At the high water mark of Existentialism, Lig's challenge had an impact which is less powerful today, but for me the missionary task is as urgent as ever and he believed there is nothing in faith that a good missionary cannot explain. The Founding Acts of Practical Theology', he is not much further credited explicitly in the text or referred to in the bibliographies. Lig and his colleagues' attention to catechetics has no counterpart in Anglican pastoral theology. The SPCK New Dictionary of Pastoral Studies has no entry for catechetics. One Anglican academic, Leslie Francis, has worked in this field, mostly on a project basis involving specific psycho-socio-educational research, and in nothing like the depth of his French catechetical counterparts.
