ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the stories of the six counsellors/advocates who participated in this research. At the time of the first interview Barbara was a 33-year-old Australian woman who had worked as an after-hours counsellor/advocate at a regional Victorian CASA for almost three years. Barbara had a background of working in human resources roles, with an emphasis on mediation. Rose is a qualified social worker who, at the time of the first interview, had worked at a regional CASA for two years. Prior to this, Rose had worked for 17 years as a counsellor with victims/survivors of torture and trauma. Bella is a woman of Eastern European decent, aged in her early forties at the time of the first interview. She worked as a senior counsellor at a regional Victorian CASA. Andrea is an Australian woman who was in her late thirties when we met about the research. She was a working mother and had a degree in rural social welfare.
