ABSTRACT

Experiences from one project can strengthen our performance on future projects, even though those projects may be dissimilar in many ways. When a project comes to an end it is important to reflect on all the events and experiences mistakes as well as successes so that work on the next and future projects will have an improved experience base. Checklists are invaluable in many project management activities, and the experience gained from one project gives an opportunity either to compile or improve checklists for use on future projects. Some companies allow themselves the apparent luxury of a project manager's diary. But a project diary is not really such a luxury because it records information while the project and its events are still relatively clear and fresh in the project manager's mind. Network diagrams and resource schedules for a new project are often developed after an initial meeting at which several fairly senior managers and engineers are present.
