ABSTRACT

The success of the project is obviously depends on a number of factors; however, the efficacy of the project manager and the project team are important factors in the success of the project. Project teams can be even more complicated to manage than the average organisational team for a number of reasons. Firstly, the team can be relatively short lived, depending on the duration of the project, so there is not the same luxury of time to build the team. Secondly, often a high percentage of the staff employed on a project can have a real job to do as well as delivering the project and may only be matrix managed by the project manager. This chapter focuses on models of leadership which appear to have the most relevance for project managers: The managerial grid, situational leadership, transformational leadership, emotionally intelligent leadership and authentic leadership.
