ABSTRACT
Institute was a woman, Ruth Reed. In 2016, Jane Duncan will become the third female president following Angela Brady (2011-13). At the very senior level, that gives out a message about the profession generally, and there has clearly been a step change in questions of gender equality at that level. However, this is still a period of transition. Women architects are moving forward from the immediate post-war period, and more are coming into the profession. This is not something that happened overnight, of course. Architects for Change was set up in 2000, and Women in Architecture was set up in 1999.1 In those early years, there were a lot of women who put in a tremendous amount of effort to raise this subject and do something about it.
