ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a successful collaboration between the Oxford Group, Ashridge and Novartis, to design and run an imaginative programme to develop a cohort of new firstline leaders. The programme involved the participants, the tutors and the companies in significant personal and organizational learning. The Oxford Group is an international consultancy and training organization that works on all the people dimensions of business. As is often the case, the relatively recent relationship between the Oxford Group and Novartis as companies is founded on a long-term relationship between people. Richard Nicholson, the Management Development Manager of Novartis in the UK, worked previously for Hoechst, the German chemical and pharmaceutical company. The Oxford Group holds a strong view that reflection is a key element of learning and it is a key element of the Oxford Learning Model. The learning from the programme can be characterized as improvement in performance and improvement for transformation.
