ABSTRACT

The workplace and associated working practices and culture play a significant part of the increasingly important new 'work experience' or proposition. Re-imagining the Office is a call to arms for all those concerned with workplace design; with the engagement of employees; with the practical task of nurturing the culture of knowledge, innovation and transformation that are now seen as key to future competitiveness in business. The soul-less office floors of formalised desking and meeting rooms left behind clearly demonstrated that functionality alone is not enough. The spiritual and operational 'heart' of an organisation or business community. A place people want to be associated with and be seen in. A place where people want to come and stay and come back to again and again, and bring their friends associates with them. People are very important to atmosphere and experience, remember the football match and concert scenarios, although absence of people can also sometimes provide a desirable atmosphere.
