Sacramental models of marriage and their impact on domestic violence

Chapter 5 explores one of Augustine’s goods of marriage – that of indissoluble union (sacramentum). It asks how sacramental models of marriage have impacted on domestic violence, notably through the lack of religious divorce within Roman Catholicism. Through engaging with recent developments in sacramental theology, particularly within feminist and liberation theologies, it begins to explore how marriage might function as a place of saving grace.
