ABSTRACT
The Old Testament heroine Judith reappeared in early modern France as the strong and virtuous heroine of popular literature with a religious orientation, as we have seen in previous chapters. What role, then, did she play in religious discourse of the time directed toward the populace? For an answer to this query we turn to early modern sermons.
